The 3 Steps to Developing a Commercial Security Plan

Commercial Security Plan

Take these three steps to heart when trying to develop a commercial security plan.

When developing a commercial security plan, you need to take into account the safety of visitors, clients, customers, employees, valuable data, and physical property that needs to be protected. If any of these things were put at risk by a potential wrong-doer, you could have a serious problem at hand. That’s why it’s important to develop a plan that takes all of your needs into consideration. Developing, implementing, and maintaining a commercial security plan is never easy—however, with the right process in mind, you can ensure you’re taking the right steps to create a system that works for you.

1. Figure Out Your Priorities

What kind of business are you? Do you work with sensitive data requiring tight IT security policies or are you primarily concerned with physical security and things like access control systems? By hammering out the details of just what you value when it comes to security is the first step you ought to take. Any policies or technologies implemented should run parallel with your business model and not impede upon day-to-day business in any significant fashion.

2. Determine Your Vulnerabilities

Once you’ve worked out the details of what elements of security actually pertain to your line of work, it’s time to get down to the brass tacks of what vulnerabilities may exist within your facility or network. Updating your commercial security plan may be as easy as investing in the infrastructure of your security tech network; the latest and greatest in technology can do more than you may be aware of but will require a robust backbone infrastructure to enable and support it. That said, you still want to do an entire risk assessment of your facility and see if there are any entry points, access control systems, CCTV systems, or other areas where you’re lacking.

3. Test and Maintain

Once you begin the process of implementation, you want to test all of your equipment and guarantee that it works as anticipated. It’s also a matter of accurately communicating whatever is changing to all who may be affected, especially in the case where there’s technology that may have a slight learning curve. After everything has been properly installed and implemented, you also want to have documentation along with a process for maintenance to ensure it stays in proper working order.
