4 Critical Data Center Design Tips

Data Center Design

Data center design is all about finding the optimal efficiencies in every design decision. Check out our tips.

While data centers can vary in terms of size and components, there are some ideas that inform the design process behind all of them. As one of the most critical assets an organization may have, it’s important that data centers are optimized for performance and work the way you need them to. Any business who heavily relies on the Internet and stores data knows how important data centers may be. Below, we discuss four critical data center design tips that can increase efficiency.

1. Prioritize Function

Some design decisions that are aesthetically pleasing also just turn out to work best, like proper cable management, which offers a clean look while also reducing the risk of damaging your cables. At the end of the day, however, function means more than aesthetics every time when it comes to data center design.

2. Consider Modular Designs

A good data center is one that is built with adaptability in mind. In the event that legacy tech needs to get swapped out or your needs from the center changing, a modular design goes a long way in allowing for simplicity. This makes it far easier to add in different elements when the time comes.

3. Learn the Infrastructure

Before installing all of that equipment, you want to make sure the infrastructure in place can handle it all. The existing power grid may not be able to handle all the additional load from your facility. You may even need to look into other power generation options. Something like different kinds of generators may also need to be looked into.

4. Keep End-Users in Mind

Involving the people who will actually be working within the site day-to-day can help inform better design. Thanks to their hands-on experience, they have knowledge of the space that facility managers or construction contractors may not.
