Position summary:  BICSI Technicians – Technicians are specialists skilled at working with complex systems who perform highly technical installations and diagnostic testing on structured cabling systems (SCS) and network components.  Technicians must perform duties in a professional manner in accordance with industry best practices. Technicians may work independently, as part of a team, as a team leader, or under the direction of a professional..

Technician Level I is an entry level position that requires a technical or mechanical aptitude and/or experience and a capacity to learn through on-the-job and vendor instruction.

 

Position responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Assists the Crew Leader and Technician II on the successful completion of assigned projects; 2) Assists with maintenance and care of the van/job inventories; 3) Installs cabling and associated infrastructure; 4) Cable terminations, pulling, and testing; 5) Learns to effectively utilize work scheduling to maximize crew efficiency; 6) Adds efficiency and speed to work habits; and 7) Learns the many facets involved in current installation procedures.

 

Essential skills and experience: Minimum of 0-6 months of experience in the telecommunications industry or other technical/mechanical fields. Technicians must be able to work under the supervision of Crew Leader and senior technicians during the installation of structured cable systems and pathways including fiber optic, copper, and co-axial cable. Technicians I must have good verbal/written communications skills and the ability to use hand and power tools. Technicians Level I will have good interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to work in both premise and OSP environments (work from ladders, lifts, manholes, confined spaces and bucket trucks up to 30’ may be required). Technicians must be able to work overtime, weekends, after hours, and travel as needed. Must be available to work 24/7 service calls if required.

 

Must be able to pass a background check and/or have the ability to get a government issued security clearance. A clean driving record is required and candidate must provide a DMV record upon offer of employment. Drug screening is required. U.S. citizenship may also be required.

 

Education: High school diploma/GED, military electronic specialization schools, or trade school certification. Manufacturer certification, as applicable, may be substituted for trade school certification. BICSI certification is a plus.

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing duties of the job, Technicians will frequently be required to stand; walk; sit; bend; stoop; kneel; climb; pull; push; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. They will also frequently be required to lift a minimum of 75 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment usually moderate, but can become heavy or high depending on the equipment being used at the particular work site.
