Position summary:  A Crew Leader must possess leadership and supervisory skills and have a solid technical background.  The ability to manage labor, material, and perform administrative functions is essential.    

Position responsibilities: Fully qualified technician. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 1) Installs, terminates, tests, troubleshoots, and certifies fiber optic and copper cable systems and support structures; 2) Provides first level quality assurance and supervision; and 3) Supervises and leads teams to complete project requirements. 

Essential skills and experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in the industry with the ability to work independently or as a supervisor of a team to complete fiber optic, UTP, coaxial, audio, and video cable installation projects. Crew Leaders will have knowledge in proper use of hand tools and test equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, and state-of-the-art UTP scanners as well as proper testing and trouble shooting procedures including documentation such as work orders, change order, reading blueprints, and installation specifications.  Other Crew Leader skill sets include: develop and maintain red-lined as-built annotations to project drawings, proficient in proper installation of structured cable systems devices including conduit, cable trays, racks, patch panels, cable management systems, outlets, jacks, and cable support systems. and working knowledge of fiber optic and copper cable terms and concepts, including FDDI, Ethernet,  installation codes, practices and procedures, including EIA/TIA standards, NEC (National Electric Code), BICSI and OSHA standards.

All Crew Leaders will have experience in prioritizing and coordinating labor, material, subcontractors, rental and testing equipment while working the challenge of meeting deadlines and project milestone dates. Crew Leaders will have good interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to work in both premise and OSP environments (work from ladders, lifts, manholes, confined spaces and bucket trucks up to 30’ may be required). Technicians must be able to work overtime, weekends, after hours, and travel as needed. Must be able to work 24/7 service call as required.

Must be able to pass a background check and/or have the ability to get a government issued clearance. A clean driving record is required and candidate must provide a DMV record.  Drug screening is required.  U.S. citizenship may also be required. 

Education: High school diploma/GED, military electronic specialization schools, or trade school certification. Crew Leaders must possess and maintain manufacturer certification for multiple product lines such as Corning, AMP, Sumitomo, Mohawk, Belden, etc., Coaxial Installation Certification, Coaxial Testing Certification may be substituted for trade school certification and BICSI certification is a plus. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:  While performing duties of the job, Crew Leaders will frequently be required to stand; walk; sit; bend; stoop; kneel; climb; pull; push; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  They will also frequently be required to lift a minimum of 75 pounds or more.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment usually moderate, but can become heavy or high depending on the equipment being used at the particular work site.
