How to Develop a Commercial Security Plan

Commercial Security

Assessing your commercial security needs requires coming up with a complete, comprehensive plan of action.

Developing a quality commercial security plan means taking into account the safety of customers and visitors, employees, and any valuable data that shouldn’t get into the wrong hands. Proper implementation and maintenance is also a necessity though and the development of a commercial security plan can sometimes be tricky. There are a few cornerstone ideas to always keep in mind when creating a commercial security plan so let’s take a look:

Preplanning

Even before a plan is put in place, you have to consider how your implementation of a new security plan may impact your business efforts. If you deal with sensitive client data often, then protecting that data is absolutely essential. A good security plan should never have any noticeable negative impacts on your day-to-day business; like how a good access control system shouldn’t impede upon the flow of traffic in a commercial facility. Going into the development process of a security plan with this idea in mind—that whatever measures are implemented must align with your business—can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Considering Your Vulnerabilities

Take a look at whatever security policies you have in place first. Is there anything that obviously sticks out as being incomplete or lacking in some way? Many times, security plans can benefit simply from upgrading all of the technology utilized to incorporate more modern systems. Try to perform a risk assessment of any major facilities and take a look at major entry points, visitor access protocols, CCTV systems, and even parking lots. This will give you a better idea of what areas might require an upgrade in technology or even some security personnel to be brought on board.  With the internet and hand-held tablets and phones, security monitoring can go beyond the traditional “security control room” and have alarms and videos directly transmitted to authorized persons.

Testing and Maintenance

Before implementing anything, you want to test out all security equipment for yourself. It’s also important to make sure all employees are onboard and have been properly educated on all new security measures as well as specific responses. Once you have your system in place, be sure you also have a proper maintenance plan in place as well to keep all of that technology up and running.
