Position summary: An Electronic Security Technician has a strong technical background and is skilled in the most current installation, testing, termination, and maintenance procedures for electronic security systems devices, structured cabling, access control devices, Intrusion Detection, Perimeter Fencing, Automated Gate, and CCTV systems at commercial and/or government facilities.
Position responsibilities: The responsibilities of an Electronic Security Technician include, but are not limited to: 1) Maintains an awareness and understanding of the most current installation, testing, and termination procedures for various components of electronic security systems, access control devices, and CCTV systems; 2) Must be able to install structured cabling according to industry standards and certain client requirements that exceed industry standards. Cabling will be used for various systems to include but not limited to Data Networks, VOIP Networks, Security Systems, Nurse Call Systems, Paging, Video and more; 3) Installs, tests, maintains, and upgrades electronic security systems, access control devices, and CCTV systems, to include both equipment and infrastructure; 3) Assists in and is responsible for the successful completion of all assigned projects within the scope of their work area; 4) Familiar with and cares for the various types of materials and tools needed to complete tasks; 5) Must be able to install and update software and firmware; 5) Must be able to maintain a project plan and document installation details for as-built drawings; 6) Recognizes and provides immediate solutions for onsite changes in system integrations in the construction of buildings from start to closure; 6) Candidate must be able to read blueprints, electrical diagrams, read manufacturers documentation and install products accordingly; 7) Follows proper schematic wiring diagrams and hook-up procedures; 8) Must possess advance troubleshooting skills; 8) Works with other Technicians to run wire and install peripheral devices in accordance with instructions of devices; and 9) Interacts with customers, coworkers and vendors in a positive, timely, and professional manner; 10) Must be flexible and willing to change direction at any time and start a new task.
Essential skills and experience: Electronic Security Technicians must have at least three years experience in low- voltage cabling installation and security systems installation, programming and break/fix services. Candidate must be able to overcome, adapt and improvise as needed to overcome obstacles onsite and be able to work independently towards a resolution with little to no involvement from management. Must be able to work out of town/overnight as needed with minimum notice. Must be able to and willing to complete daily progress reports and use company email to send to the appropriate parties daily. Must possess intermediate PC/Windows user ability including Microsoft Office Suite. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to take instruction from others both verbal and written and execute as instructed. Must be able to design, install, program, test and train end users on at least a basic security system.
Must be able to pass a background check and/or have the ability to get a government issued clearance. A clean driving record is required and candidate must provide a DMV record. Drug screening is required. U.S. citizenship may also be required. Ability to obtain and maintain registration with Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as an alarm installer or technician is required. Current registration with Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services is a plus.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Must have some formal training on security systems (Honeywell preferred) others seriously taken into consideration. BICSI certification preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing duties of the job, Electronic Security Technician will frequently be required to stand; walk; sit; bend; stoop; kneel; climb; pull; push; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The Electronic Security Technician will also frequently be required to lift a minimum of 75 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment usually moderate, but can become heavy or high depending on the equipment being used at the particular work site. Must be able to climb ladders and use aerial lifts.
